1988, somewhere around Zurich, Switzerland, Chris Spoerri and his buddies bought some wood, resin, fibre glass, ski base material, and tools and they set up a little workshop to make snowboards and flex skateboards. Of course, the first decks sucked but they the three friends kept going, learnt from their mistakes and improved with every board they made. Soon, they made boards that worked very well and that had pretty progressive shapes for that time. At the beginning, they only sold their boards to friends and family but this was soon to change.
10 years later, in 1998, Chris opened a snow- and skateboard shop that was combined with a shaper workshop where finest snow- and skateboards were built - all hand made. He had seen surfshops in OZ and the US that had an attached surfboard 'factory' and he wanted to adapt this concept to the snow- and skateboard scene. It was the birth of the brand PUMPKIN. The goal was not only to make outstanding boards made from best materials but also to give'em the looks that matched perfectly to the consumer. So a wide range of graphics was created and offered for each and every board model. On top of it all, the customers could also create their own personal graphics.
Today, this is still the guideline of PUMPKIN. All decks are hand made in our own factory in Winterthur, Switzerland. Of course, production is much more professional now. We're dedicated to make high quality boards and only use high end materials. Yet, we don't talk too much about the technical side of our products. The technology is there but the focus is on the graphics and the 'Create Your Own' program. We want our customers to be 100% happy with our products and - let's face it - a product can be very good but if you don't like the looks of it, you will never really be happy with it... That's how PUMPKIN became the Nr 1 brand for flex slalom skateboards and cruisers in Switzerland.
